NOTE

MIXED FARMING

Mixed farming is the system of farming which combines livestock rearing with crop production.

 

Advantages of mixed farming

  1. Some of the unwanted crop may be used to feed animals
  2. Animal manure helps to increase soil nutrients and improve soil fertility
  3. Labour is efficiently used
  4. Energy to work is assured because farmer protein intake is higher
  5. risk of total loss is reduced
  6. farmers make a lot of money from the sale of crops and animals and animal by-products

 

Disadvantages of mixed farming

  1. capital investment is high in terms of building and equipment and to purchase crops and livestock
  2. Maintenance of animals is highly expensive in terms of vaccinations and treatment of pests and diseases
  3. some of the animals are dangerous to crops. Tey can feed on the crops if not protected
