Active voice or sentence shows what something or someone does

Examples

Passive voice or sentence shows what happens to something or someone

Examples

1.   The ball was kicked by Ade

2.   Many poems were written by Soyinka

The passive voice if formed with the formular:

Be + past participle

Tense

Present simple

Going to

Used to

The company used to be managed by Dr Adam

Uses of the passive

1.   When the object is more important that the subject and the agent is either obviously not important, or unknown

Example

All notebooks were marked immediately

2.   It is used in informal writing to make it formal(or less personal)

You are instructed to do the assignment within two days
