NOTE

METHODS OF PREVENTING FARM DISEASES

  1. adopting good sanitary practices which includes
  2. was, clean and dry the trough daily with clean materials
  3. remove old stock of livestock and disinfect the house before bringing in the new stock
  4. maintain a build up litter in a confined system
  5. don’t allow droppings to accumulate, scrap and remove them
  6. Always observe animals regularly for disease symptoms
  7. Inoculation: this is when farm animals are protected against infectious diseases by injecting them with live or dead virus to help them resist infection by the virus
  8. Vaccination: this is the practice of practically building up the immunity of the animal body against a particular disease by injecting the animals with vaccines.
  9. Isolation(Quarantine): This is the isolation of any animal that contacts a disease from the others for treatment until they are fully recovered

CONTROL OF DISEASES IN LIVESTOCK

  1. Medication: a veterinary doctor should be invited to visit farm animals on regular basis and when there is a disease outbreak. Their work is to care for and treat any animal infected with diseases.
  2. Dispose of animals that are diseased. These can be achieved in the following ways
  3. dead diseased animals should be disposed
  4. diseased animals should be burnt and not buried
  5. For bird flu disease, open market should be avoided
