BASIC PATTERN DRAFTING

Tools for Taking Body Measurements

  1. Measuring Tape: Flexible tape used for measuring body circumference and length.
  2. Mirror: Helps ensure accuracy by allowing the person measuring to see angles and positions.
  3. Notepad and Pen/Pencil: For recording measurements immediately.
  4. String (if measuring tape is unavailable): Can be used to measure circumference and then checked against a ruler.
  5. Ruler or Yardstick: Useful for measuring smaller body parts or checking lengths.
  6. Body Measurement Chart: A guide to record and track specific measurements.

Guidelines for Taking Body Measurements

  1. Wear Lightweight or Fitted Clothing: Wear minimal clothing to ensure accuracy without excess fabric.
  2. Use a Flexible Measuring Tape: Make sure it’s flexible enough to contour to the body.
  3. Stand Straight and Relaxed: Maintain a natural posture, with shoulders relaxed.
  4. Measure at the Correct Points: Follow specific body points for measurements (e.g., waist at the narrowest point, bust across the fullest part).
  5. Ensure a Snug but Not Tight Fit: Tape should fit snugly but not press into the skin.
  6. Keep the Tape Level: The tape should be parallel to the floor for accurate circumference measurements.
  7. Record Immediately: Write down each measurement right away to avoid forgetting or mixing them up.
  8. Measure Twice for Accuracy: Repeat each measurement to ensure accuracy.
  9. Avoid Measuring After a Meal: For more precise waist and hip measurements, avoid measuring right after eating.

EVALUATION:

  1. Why is it important to use a flexible measuring tape when taking body measurements?
  2. What are the consequences of taking body measurements while wearing loose or bulky clothing?
  3. How does posture influence the accuracy of body measurements?
  4. Why should body measurements be repeated for accuracy, and what could happen if they are not?
  5. What is the significance of measuring at the correct body points, such as the waist and bust?

CLASSWORK: As in evaluation

CONCLUSION: The teacher marks their books and commends them positively
