Week 7

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining the three types of Literature.

Types of Literature

1.   Prose: Prose texts are usually written in plain writing that is free from rhythmic patterns or technical arrangements. Prose explains its message very well. It is not like poetry, which does not give lengthy details. The writer takes time to describe characters, events and settings.

Prose is written in sentences and chapters. A person who writes prose is called a novelist.

Some examples of prose include My book of virtues(Series A-E) by Ajeyomi Adejoke, Shadow’s edge by Ajeyomi Adejoke, Underworld city by Ajeyomi Adejoke, etc

2.   Poetry: Poetry is a piece of writing arranged in patterns of lines and stanzas(or verses). It is an expression of the poet’s(that is, the writer’s) feelings or experiences in imaginative language. It is written in condensed language and doesn’t always give up its meaning easily. Examples include Unveiling You the Masterpiece(Series A-C) By Ajeyomi Adejoke, My Mother by Ann Taylor, Ibadan by J.P Clark etc

3.   Drama: It is a piece of writing that is meant to be acted or performed for an audience. The characters speak directly to one another. The person that writes plays is called a playwright or a dramatist. Some examples are Harmony’s triumph by Ajeyomi Adejoke, The Lion and The Jewel by Wole Soyinka
