TYPES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF GROUP BEHAVIOUR

  1. Mass action- this is a situation where a group of persons come together

either as a matter of urgency or at an agreed venue and time to express

their grievance or support for a specific social situation especially as it

concerns the group

 

CHARACTERISTICS OF MASS ACTION

  1. it is mostly spontaneous and have negative outcomes
  2. it could be violent
  3. it is mostly destructive
  4. it can degenerate to mob action, stealing and obstruction of public order
  5. it encourages demonstration of bad behaviour by people
  6. It may lead to misinformation resulting to political instability in a country

 

  1. Communal Labour: This is the situation where a group of people

volunteer themselves to provide services of help to benefit the community

 

CHARCTERISTICS OF COMMUNAL LABOUR

  1. It is planned in advance
  2. it is mostly based on the needs of the community
  3. it brings development to a community
  4. it is mostly organized by community members as well as individual

philanthropists

  1. it encourages good behaviour among members of a community

 

BENEFITS OF POSITIVE GROUP BEHAVIOUR

  1. it leads to achievement of the aims and objectives
  2. it leads to community development
  3. it encourages people to courageously do what they would not ordinarily

do as individuals

  1. it encourages people to be bold in defending public good
  2. it encourages people to develop spirit of cooperation and teamwork as

members learn how to work together to achieve a common goal

  1. it enables people o be aware of current societal challenges and work for

solutions immediately

  1. it helps people to get themselves free from oppression and

marginalization or any kind from the government or any other group within
