APPLICATION SOFTWARE

An application software is a software that is designed for a particular kind of task. Application software are also called end-user software or productivity software because they enable the user to perform tasks such as creating documents, spreadsheets, database, etc.

Each application software is designed for a particular type of activity. Examples of application software

  1. Word processing software: These are softwares that are used to create, edit, format and print documents. Word processing softwares are also called word processors. Examples of word processing software are Microsoft word, WordStar, word-perfect, etc.
  2. Presentation software: These are softwares that are used to create presentations. Examples of presentation software are Microsoft PowerPoint, prezzy etc.
  3. Spreadsheet software: These are softwares that are used to perform mathematical calculations. Examples of presentation software are Microsoft excel, Lotus1-2-3, Quattro pro, Super Calc etc
  4. Database software: These are softwares that are used to create and manage database. It is also known as Database Management System (DBMS). Examples of database softwares are Microsoft access, oracle, MySQL, dBase etc.
  5. Graphics software: These are software that are used to create and manipulate images on a computer. Examples of graphic softwares are Microsoft paint, Instant artist, CorelDraw, Photoshop etc.
  6. Web browser: These are softwares that are used to browse the Internet. Examples of web browser are Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari etc.
