TYPES OF FARM BUILDINGS

  1. Temporary or “make shift” buildings: these are simple buildings

after the farmer has finished using them. Some of the materials used for

making them include palm or banana leaf, thatch, asbestos, polyethylene

etc

meant to last for a long time. Materials such as cement, stones, gravels,

corrugated iron sheets etc are used.

well as the farm workers. It consists of toilets, bathrooms etc for

convenience

  1. poultry house: these are different houses used for the rearing of different

kinds of birds. The commonest is the battery cage used for rearing layers.

  1. Livestock pen: It is a fenced enclosure and confinement for domestic

animals such as goat, pigs, cattle etc

  1. stores: they are used for storing dry, cold and wet produce within the

farm

  1. Utility buildings/workshop: Here machines and tools used on the farm

are examined, operated, serviced and maintained.

  1. Tractor/Equipment shed: it is made up of timber or metal poles and has

compartments such as tractor trailer, ploughs, harrows, planters and boom
