INTRODUCTION |
The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by discussing how the past continuous tense is used
We use the past continuous tense when we want to show that two or more actions took place in the past and one of the actions was interrupted or left unfinished. First we put the uncompleted action into the past continuous tense by using the simple past tense of the verb be(which must agree with the subject of the sentence) with the progressive form of the action verb. Any other action in the sentence is expressed in the simple past tense. |

EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION/TEACHER MODELLING |
The teacher further explains how the past continuous tense is formed
We form the past continuous tense by combining the simple past tense of the verb be(was/were) with the -ing(progressive) form of the main verb. If the subject is i/he/she/it, we use ‘was’, if the subject is we/you/they we use ‘were’. Examples
