NOTE

THE STUDY OF COLOURS (COLOUR APPLICATION)

Color mixture refers to the process of combining different colors to create new hues, shades, or tones. There are several methods of color mixing, including additive and subtractive mixing:

  1. Additive Color Mixing: In additive color mixing, colors are combined by adding together different wavelengths of light. This is the process used in electronic displays such as computer monitors, televisions, and stage lighting. The primary colors in additive mixing are red, green, and blue (RGB). When combined in various proportions, these colors create a wide range of other colors. For example, mixing red and green light produces yellow, while combining all three primary colors results in white light.
  2. Subtractive Color Mixing: In subtractive color mixing, colors are combined by subtracting wavelengths of light. This is the process used in printing and painting. The primary colors in subtractive mixing are cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY). When combined in varying amounts, these colors produce a range of secondary colors, including red, green, and blue.

Applications of color

Applications of color in craftwork include:

  1. Painting and Drawing: Artists use color to create visually appealing compositions and convey emotions or messages in paintings, drawings, and illustrations.
  2. Textiles and Fiber Arts: Color is used in dyeing fabrics, yarns, and threads to create intricate patterns and designs in quilting, weaving, embroidery, and knitting.
  3. Pottery and Ceramics: Colorful glazes and pigments are applied to pottery and ceramics to enhance their appearance and create decorative motifs.
  4. Jewelry Making: Colorful gemstones, beads, and metals are combined to create vibrant and eye-catching jewelry designs.
  5. Paper Crafts: Colorful paper, cardstock, and other materials are used in paper crafting techniques such as card making, scrapbooking, and origami to create visually stunning projects.
