NOTE

SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR PEDESTRIANS, CYCLISTS AND MOTORISTS IN NIGERIA

  1. Walk on the walkways
  2. if there are no walkways, walk on the left side of the road. It is safer to

face oncoming vehicles

  1. if you have children with you, be between them and the moving vehicles
  2. wear something white or light-coloured while walking in the dark
  3. observe the traffic light when crossing
  4. do not get off/on buses that are still in motion
  5. wear safety helmet if you are a cyclist
  6. Read road signs and observe them
  7. Never overtake just before a pedestrian or zebra crossing
  8. do not over-speed
  9. never take alcohol before driving
  10. When approaching pedestrian crossing, slow down or come to a

complete halt

  1. dim headlamps when meeting other vehicles or road users
  2. before leaving the vehicle, switch it off and remove the key ensuring

that the hand brake is on firmly

  1. service the vehicles regularly and repair immediately

16 Ensure there is a fire extinguisher in the vehicles always

  1. Every driver and passenger in the vehicle must make use of the seat belt.
