CORRECT KEYBOARDING TECHNIQUES

Key Rows

The keyboard is typically divided into rows where keys are arranged in a staggered pattern to accommodate the natural movement of fingers. These rows are:

  1. Top Row (Function Row or Number Row): Located at the top of the keyboard above the main letter and number rows. It contains function keys (F1 to F12) and number keys (1 to 0).
  2. Number Row (Top Alphanumeric Row): The row below the function keys, consisting of number keys (1 to 0) and special characters accessible with Shift.
  3. Home Row: The central row where the fingers rest when not typing. It includes the keys: ASDF for the left hand and JKL; for the right hand.
  4. Bottom Row (Spacebar Row): The row at the bottom of the keyboard containing the spacebar and keys like Ctrl, Alt, and the arrow keys.

Divisions on the Keyboard

The keyboard is divided into two main sections:

  1. Alphanumeric Section: Contains letters (A-Z), numbers (0-9), and punctuation marks used for typing text and entering data.
  2. Functional Section: Includes function keys (F1 to F12), navigation keys (Arrow keys), editing keys (Home, End, Page Up, Page Down), and special keys (Ctrl, Alt, Shift).
