VOLLEYBALL GAME

Volleyball is a team game played with a lighter ball. Each team occupies one half of the court which is divided by a high net at the centre. Each team tries to gather the greater number of points by hitting the ball over the net so that the opponents will be unable to return it.

BASIC SKILLS IN VOLLEYBALL

  1. SETTING/SET-UP: Setting is can be done to either dump the ball over into an undefended spot or to “set” the ball into a position that allows the hitter to spike it over. The perfect set is a high ball, just inches from the net.
  2. VOLLEY PASS: This is when two players on the other side of the net communicate one moves towards the net and one volleys the ball, the one that has moved to the net faces their partner who passes the ball to them with a high pass from a volley position with the ball above their forehead.
  3. DIGGING: This is a way of raising a very low ball for somebody to set it for spiking
  4. SPIKING: It is an offensive pass aimed at forcing the ball to land on the opponent side of the court very close to the net before it can be returned by them
  5. THE BLOCK: the block is an action which attempts to stop an opposing attack from making points
  6. NET REBOUND/RETRIEVE: it is used to rescue a ball that has landed on the net
  7. THE SERVICE/SERVE: This is the act of putting the ball into play. This is done by the right back line player who stands in the service area and hits the ball into the opponent’s court.
