SHOT PUT
Shot put is an event which involves the carrying and throwing of weight using only the hand
FACILITY: Shot put court
The implement: it is made of cast iron
FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS IN SHOT PUT
1. The grip and carry: it is held in the fingers and rests slightly behind the ear
- The stance: the thrower stands at the back of the circle with his back in the direction of the put.
- Dip: the heel of the right foot is raised off the ground as the body weight is centred over the ball of the right foot.
- The Glide and turn: The putter starts the kick off from the left leg to the rear, his spine almost parallel to the ground and the right foot is flat on the ground
- Release: As the shot leaves the fingers, the body weight is now on the left leg for balance, the right leg side and arm are fully stretched following the quick action of the delivery and release
- The follow through: The body weight is now supported entirely on the right leg, the left leg is partially bent(flexed) and held upward and behind the body for the purpose of regaining balance
