NOTE

INTRODUCTION OF KEYBOARDING

Keyboarding refers to the skill of operating and typing on a computer keyboard to input text and commands into a computer or other electronic device. It involves using fingers to press keys on a keyboard systematically and accurately to produce written content, navigate software, or execute commands.

Importance of Keyboarding

Keyboarding skills are essential for several reasons:

  1. Proficiency in keyboarding allows individuals to type quickly and accurately, improving productivity and workflow.

2.Keyboarding facilitates effective communication through email, messaging, document creation, and social media.

  1. Many professions require data entry tasks where accurate and swift typing is crucial for entering information into databases or spreadsheets.
  2. Competence in keyboarding is often necessary for academic assignments, research papers, and professional documentation.

Correct Position for Keyboarding

Proper positioning when keyboarding helps prevent strain and fatigue while optimizing speed and accuracy. Follow these guidelines for correct keyboarding posture:

  1. Seating Position:

   - Sit upright with your back against the chair for proper back support.

   - Keep feet flat on the floor or on a footrest to maintain stability.

  1. Keyboard Position:

   - Place the keyboard directly in front of you, centered with your body.

   - Position the keyboard so that your elbows are bent at approximately 90 degrees when typing.

  1. Hand and Wrist Position:

   - Keep wrists straight and in line with your forearms to minimize strain.

   - Avoid resting your wrists on the edge of the keyboard or desk while typing.

  1. Finger Placement:

   - Position your fingers over the home row keys (ASDF for the left hand and JKL; for the right hand).

   - Use all fingers to reach keys, rather than just a few fingers.

  1. Typing Technique:

   - Use a light touch on the keys; avoid pressing keys forcefully.

   - Use both hands equally to distribute typing load and minimize strain.

  1. Monitor Position:

   - Position the monitor directly in front of you, at arm's length distance.

   - Adjust the monitor height so that the top of the screen is at or slightly below eye level.

  1. Take Breaks:

   - Take short breaks and stretch your fingers, hands, arms, and shoulders periodically to prevent fatigue and repetitive strain injuries.

   EVALUATION: 1. What is Keyboarding?

  1. Mention 5 importance of keyboarding
  2. Describe briefly 4 correct position of keyboarding
