PERIOD 1 & 2: Perimeter of Regular Plane Shapes (Square, Rectangle, Trapezium, Parallelogram, Circle)

PRESENTATION:

Step

Teacher’s Activity

Pupil’s Activity

Step 1 - Introduction

Reviews previous lesson on plane shapes and introduces perimeter.

Pupils listen and answer questions.

Step 2 - Explanation

Defines perimeter as the distance around a shape. Introduces formulas:

Pupils copy down formulas.

- Square: Perimeter = 4 × side

- Rectangle: Perimeter = 2 × (length + width)

- Trapezium: Perimeter = sum of all sides

- Parallelogram: Perimeter = 2 × (length + width)

- Circle: Perimeter (Circumference) = 2πr

Step 3 - Demonstration

Solves example problems on the board using each shape’s formula.

Pupils solve similar examples with guidance.

Step 4 - Note Taking

Pupils take notes on the formulas and examples.

Pupils copy and practice.

NOTE ON BOARD:

  • Square: Perimeter = 4 × side
  • Rectangle: Perimeter = 2 × (length + width)
  • Trapezium: Perimeter = sum of all sides
