STEPS

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

LEARNERS ACTIVITY

1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining who a penfriend is and then reviews the rules for writing an informal letter

A penfriend (or pen pal) is a person with whom one exchanges letters, typically as a way to establish a friendship or communication over a distance. This practice often involves writing letters, sharing personal experiences, and discussing interests or cultural differences. Penfriends can be from different countries or regions, allowing individuals to learn about other cultures, languages, and lifestyles through their correspondence. While traditionally associated with handwritten letters, the concept has expanded to include emails and other forms of written communication.

Dear Joy,

I hope this letter finds you well! I’m excited to share a bit about my family with you.

I come from a close-knit family of five. My father, Ben Johnson is a dedicated Physician and he loves playing golf. He often shares his passion for nature and wildlife with us, and it’s a wonderful bonding experience.

My mother, Veronica Johnson is a talented Caterer, and she has a special love for dogs especially golden retrievers. She often cooks delicious meals for us, and our family dinners are always filled with laughter and joy.

I have two siblings. My sister's name is Jessy Johnson and she is 9 while my brother’s name is Carlos Johnson who is 7 years old, and they love watching animated movies. We enjoy spending time together, whether it’s playing games, watching movies, or just chatting about our day.

We also have a golden retriever named Duke. He is such a cute dog and a playful companion bringing so much joy and laughter to our home.

Overall, my family is very supportive and caring, and we always try to make time for each other despite our busy lives. I would love to hear about your family too! How many members do you have, and what do you enjoy doing together?

Looking forward to your reply!

Best wishes,
Rita Johnson
