WEEDS

Weeds are plants growing where they are not wanted or planted.

EFFECTS OF WEEDS

  1. reduces yield and kills crops
  2. they are poisonous and can cause stomach upsets in cattle
  3. they compete with crops for space and water
  4. they harbor insects and pests that attack crops
  5. Removing them is laborious and increases the cost of production

 

CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES OF WEEDS

  1. they can reproduce sexually(by seeds) and asexually(vegetative means)
  2. they are adapted to survive adverse conditions
  3. they produce large quantities of pollen grains
  4. they have short life cycles
