MOSAICS I

Mosaics are decorative art forms created by arranging small pieces of colored materials, such as glass, stone, ceramic, or other hard materials, into patterns or images. These pieces, called tesserae, are assembled and set into a bed of adhesive or mortar to form a unified design.

Materials and tools in making mosaics

   Materials:

     - Glass tiles or pieces

     - Ceramic tiles or pieces

     - Stone tiles or pieces

     - Broken bottles or glassware

     - Broken beads or jewelry

     - Sequins or other small decorative objects

     - Newspaper (for protecting work surface)

     - Paper of different colors (for sketching or creating templates)

     - Glue or adhesive (such as mosaic glue or tile adhesive)

   Tools:

     - Pen or marker (for sketching designs)

     - Pliers (for cutting and shaping tiles or glass pieces)

     - Knife or glass cutter (for cutting tiles or glass)

     - Paintbrush (for applying adhesive)

     - Scissors (for cutting paper templates)

     - Ruler (for measuring and creating straight lines)

     - Grout float (for applying grout)

     - Sponge (for cleaning excess grout)

     - Optional: Mosaic tweezers or tile nipper (for precision work)
