Lettering and numerals

Apart from graphical elements (lines, arcs, circles etc.) technical drawings will also contain written information (with combination of Lettering and Numbering).

In engineering drawing, whatever is written on the drawing sheet must be written in a particular fashion so that it is legible, uniform in appearance, and east for quick reading. The writing explain those details of the object which cannot be shown through lines.

Lettering and numerals can be carried out through various methods, depending on your goal:

  1. Hand Lettering:

   - Practice using different styles and fonts.

   - Use quality pens or brushes for varied strokes.

   - Pay attention to spacing and consistency.

  1. Digital Lettering:

   - Utilize graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator or Procreate.

   - Explore different fonts and customize as needed.

  1. Numerals:

   - Practice writing numerals in various styles.

   - Consider the context – formal, casual, decorative.

   - Maintain consistency with the overall design.

  1. Stencil or Templates:

- Use stencils for uniformity in lettering.

   - Templates can guide the placement of numerals.

EVALUATION: 1. Describe lettering and numerals.

  2. Using templates, draw out the name, TECHNICAL DRAWING.
