CLASSIFICATION OF FARM ANIMALS BASED ON THEIR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

  1. Ruminants: these are animals that have complex stomach made up of four chambers which include rumen, reticulum, omasum and the abomasums. Ruminant animals are able to bring up food already swallowed back to the mouth to chew again. This is called chewing the cud. Some examples of ruminant animals are cattle, goats and sheep
  2. Non ruminants: These are animals with only one simple stomach. They are unable to bring back already swallowed food. Some examples of non ruminant animals are pig, guinea pig, rabbits, fowl etc
