NOTE

CLASSIFICATION OF FARM ANIMALS BASED ON THEIR USES

  1. Work animals: They are used on the farm as a source of man power. Some animals are strong and can work more than man for many hours without getting tired e.g Oxen(cows, bulls and bullocks) can be trained to draw ploughs, harrow and carry out cultivation. Camels and donkeys can be trained to transport loads for farmers. Horses can also be used as a means of transport
  2. Dairy animals: these are kept for milk production e.g cows, goat, sheep etc
  3. Guard animals: these are kept to guard and protect the farm and the farmer e.g dog
  4. Poultry: these are kept for the purpose of egg and its products and their meat e.g turkey, chicken, goose etc
  5. Pets: these are kept for recreation and the pleasure of visitors and their owner e.g cats
