CONTACT AND NON-CONTACT SPORTS

Contact sports are sports which players have physical contact with each other.

There are three basic groups of contact sports

  1. semi-contact sports- this involves striking and physical contact e.g fencing, karate and kickboxing
  2. Limited contact sports e.g baseball, cheerleading, diving, floor hockey, gymnastics, pole vault, high jump etc
  3. Full contact sports e.g boxing, hockey, football, sprinting, darts, judo, snooker, wrestling etc

 

Benefits of contact sports

  1. it improves mental alertness
  2. the risk of heart related diseases are reduced
  3. it reduces weight gain
  4. it builds self-discipline in the individual
  5. The individual is able to resist chronic/terminal diseases
  6. It enables physical coordination and builds self-esteem
