INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining the uses of adjectives

Types of adjectives

1.   Attributive use: this is when the adjective is used with a noun. Examples: a beautiful girl, nice book, clever student, fair face, worrying problem, tall tree etc

2.   Predicative use: This is when the adjective is used with a verb. Examples: She is afraid, They are dead, He is alive, he looked happy

The teacher further explains the types of adjectives and their examples

Types of adjectives

1.   Qualitative adjectives: Tells us something about a quality that someone or something has e.g new, huge, honest, rich, stupid etc

2.   Classifying adjectives: Tells us something about the group that someone or something belong to e.g monogamous, polygamous, nuclear, etc

3.   Quantifying adjectives: Tells us about the amount of a thing e.g some, little and enough

4.   Colour adjectives: Tells us the colour of something e.g green, blue, yellow, brown etc

5.   Number adjectives: Tells us the exact number of persons or things. They include: cardinal numbers- one, two, three etc and ordinal numbers- first, second, thirty-first etc

6.   Emphatic adjectives: Emphasizes on feelings about something or the degree of something e.g pure, serious, complete, utter, etc

7.   Interrogative adjectives: Asks questions about the nouns and pronouns they qualify e.g which, what.

8.   Demonstrative adjectives: used to point out the nouns which they qualify e.g this, that, those, these

9.   Possessive adjectives: They are used to show that something belongs to someone. They are also known as possessive determiners e.g my, our, your, his, her, its, their etc

10.                Compound adjectives: They are made up of two or more words separated by a hyphen e.g part-timer, home-grown, air-conditioned etc
