NOTE

WATER

Water is a clear liquid with no taste, colour or smell.

USES OF WATER

  1. for consumption by man, animals and plants
  2. for washing
  3. for cooking
  4. for fire protection
  5. for disposal of human and industrial wastes

SOURCES OF WATER SUPPLY

Sources of water supply include rain, well, borehole, spring, lake, stream, river etc

QUALITIES OF GOOD WATER

  1. Clear, colourless and sparkling
  2. should have no smell or taste
  3. should be free from germs or disease
  4. must contain the acceptable mineral composition

PURIFICATION OR TREATMENT OF WATER

  1. Boiling for at least 5-10 minutes kills the germs and softens the water
  2. Filtration- Either by slow sand filter or modern household filter, water should be filtered before use
  3. Disinfection using chemicals like chlorine especially for large water supply or swimming pools
