INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining transitive and intransitive verbs.

Transitive verbs allow action to pass from the subject to the object.

Examples

The man shut the door

Shut- transitive verb

Intransitive verb has a subject but no object to act on

Examples

The baby slept

The baby- subject

Slept – intransitive verb

The teacher further explains auxiliary verbs and its types

Auxiliary verbs are verbs that helps other verbs to form different tenses

Types of auxiliary verbs include

1.   Primary Auxiliaries: These are verbs used to form the negatives, questions and tenses. They include: have(has, have, had), be(is, are, been) and do(do, did, does)

2.   Modal Auxiliaries: These are verbs that express various moods and mental attitudes. They include can/could, may/might, will/would, shall/should, must, dare etc

b.   Explain the types of auxiliary verbs and give examples of each

c.   Showing ‘do’ as a main verb and as an auxiliary verb
