NOTE

CLASSIFICATION OF PLANTS BASED ON THEIR LIFE SPAN

  1. ANNUAL CROPS: these are crops which grow and complete their life cycle within one year. Examples are maize, rice, millet, cowpeas, yams etc
  2. BIENNIAL CROPS: these are crops that grow and complete their life cycle within two years. Examples of biennials are cassava, cocoyam, onion, cabbage etc
  3. PERENNIAL CROPS: These are crops that take more than two years to grow and complete their life cycle. Perennial crops can be divided into
  4. herbaceous perennials- they can live up to 10 years e.g sida acuta, pawpaw
  5. woody perennials – they can live for 30-80 years e.g mango, citrus, guava, cola, avocado etc. they are also called Permanent crops
