NOTE

REFUSE AND DISPOSAL

Refuse simply means solid wastes coming from domestic, industrial and commercial centres.

Household refuse include papers, cans, peels, food wastes etc

METHODS OF REFUSE DISPOSAL

  1. Composting: This is when domestic waste is allowed to rot, and converted to manure used in gardening or farming
  2. Sanitary land fill/controlled tipping: This is when collected refuse are spread over stripes of land or in trenches. The layer of refuse is covered with soil and rolled again
  3. Incineration: It is the destruction of waste using fire.
