NOTE

SEWAGE AND DISPOSAL

Sewage simply means liquid wastes coming from domestic, industrial and commercial centres.

TYPES OF SEWAGE

  1. domestic sewage-These are from homes
  2. Industrial sewage – These are from shops, offices, companies, markets and other business centres
  3. Storm sewage – These are the sewage produced as the aftermath of a natural disaster e.g tsunamis, cyclones, earthquakes etc

METHODS OF SEWAGE DISPOSAL

  1. Pit latrine-The latrine is placed directly over a pit to which urine and faeces remain
  2. Bucket latrine – these are used in rural areas where no water carriage system has been installed.
  3. Water carriage system – This is the best for of waste disposal though plenty supply of water is required in order to flush it.
