CROP PLANT FORMS
A typical flowering plant is divided into two systems namely
A. The root system
The root is the lower part of a crop plant which grows almost straight downwards into the soil. The root system is made up of the main/primary/tap root and the fibrous root.
Functions of the root
B. The shoot system
The shoot is the major part of the plant that grows upright above the ground level which bears all the members of the system. The shoot system is made up of the stem, branches, leaves, flowers, fruits and bone in them.
Stem is te part of the plant that produces the branches, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds. There are different types of stems; erect stem, runner stem, rhizome, a stem tuber or a climbing stem
