SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Learners should be able to;

  1. ) Define pronouns and give examples
  2. ) Discuss the case in which a pronoun is used for a person, number, gender and case

SET INDUCTION: The teacher reviews some of the sentences used for nouns and ask the learners to point them out and carefully replace each with a suitable pronoun

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by Explaining the meaning of a pronoun and gives examples

A Pronoun is a word that replaces a noun. Some examples of pronouns include: He, She, Me, Us, They, It, I etc

In the first group of sentences below, nouns are used in certain positions

1.   Bala went to the stream

2.   Binta went with Bala

3.   Bala and Binta fed the ducklings

4.   Mother and father watched Bala and Binta

In the below second group, I will carefully replace the underlined nouns with pronouns

1.   He went to the stream

2.   She went with Him

3.   They fed them

4.   They watched them

EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION/TEACHER MODELLING

The teacher further explains that since a pronoun is used instead of a noun, it must be in the sane number, person, gender and case as the noun it replaces.

Like nouns, pronouns can be singular(one) or plural(more than one).

Examples

Chika gave a book to Amina

He gave it to her

 

She further explains what personal pronouns are

Personal pronouns are pronouns used for three persons.

This includes

1.   First person: It is used for the person speaking. Example:

Singular- I

Plural - We

2.   Second person: It is used for the person spoken to. Example:

Singular- You

Plural- You

3.   Third person: It is used for the person spoken of. Example:

Singular- he, she, it

Plural – They
