PHYSICAL FITNESS

Physical fitness refers to the ability of your body systems to work together efficiently to allow you to be healthy and perform activities of daily living.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A PHYSICALLY FIT PERSON

  1. does not get easily tired
  2. has the ability to comprehend mental tasks
  3. is resistant to diseases and infections
  4. is able to meet up with the demands of life and the society
  5. is able to meet his/her emotional needs

COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS
HEALTH-RELATED

  1. Muscular strength: it is the use of the needed number of muscle fibers to execute certain tasks
  2. Muscular endurance: it is the ability to move the muscles for a long period of time.
  3. Cardio-respiratory endurance: it is the ability to move a group of muscles for a long period of time, long enough to cause a strain on the circulatory and respiratory systems
  4. Flexibility: It is the ability of the body to make a wide range of movements needed for swimming, tumbling or diving
  5. Power: It is the ability of the body in an explosive act to move the body or an object

PERFORMANCE-RELATED
1. Speed: It is the ability of the body to make series or related movements in a short period of time

  1. Coordination: It is the ability of the body to move in a flowing and rhythmical pattern
  2. Agility: It is the ability of the body to move quickly in different directions from different positions
  3. Balance: It is the ability of the body to maintain stability at rest and during performance of series of movement.
