TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

LEARNERS ACTIVITY

1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining the essential parts of a composition

Elements of composition

1.   Introduction: This is a short part at the beginning of your piece of writing. It is in this part that you are expected to give an idea what you are writing about, that is, the topic. Your introduction should be brief and interesting so as to arouse the attention of the reader

2.   The middle body: In the body of the composition, you try to sustain the reader’s interest. Here, the main topic is divided into sub-themes. Each paragraph therefore should be a part of the subject you are writing about. Adequate information about the main topic is given in the body

3.   Conclusion: This is a brief summary of what you have written. It is the part that shows you are about to finish what you are writing. Try to make a good and final impact on the reader by concluding very well.

OUTLINE

Outline is the reduction of your topic into manageable bits that you will later expand and write about.

An outline helps you to know which are the main ideas and the details that you need to support each of the main ideas.

To write an outline on the History and Aims of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), for examples, you should feature points such as

1.   Title-History and aims of the Federal Road Safety Corps

2.   Introduction-a brief history of the FRSC, when it was established and why it was established.

3.   Aims-

a.   To make our highways safe for motorists and other road users
