MEANING OF HISTORY

History is the study of past event.

 

AREAS IN HISTORY

Areas in history include;

  1. Ancient history: This is the study from the beginning of human history till the middle ages
  2. Art history: This is the study of changes in the social context of art
  3. Contemporary history: This is the study of recent historical events.
  4. Cultural history: The is the study of the culture of the past
  5. Digital history: This the study of the use of computing technologies to do massive searches in public sources
  6. Economic history: This is the study of economic events of the past
  7. Intellectual History: This is the study of ideas in the context of the culture that produced them and their development over time.
  8. Modern history: This is the study of modern times
  9. Military history: This is the study of warfare and wars in history and what is sometimes considered to be a sub-branch of military history.
  10. Oral history: this is the collection and study of historical information utilizing spoken interviews with people who have lived in the past
  11. Political history: this is the narrative and survey of political events, ideas, movements, organs of government, voters, parties and leaders
  12. Social history: this is the study of the process of social change throughout history
  13. World history: this is the study of history from a global perspective, with special attention to non-western societies

 

Why we study history

CHARACTERISTICS OF HISTORY

  1. It must be factual not fictional
  2. It must be accurate
  3. It must possess vital significance to the society
  4. It must be based on logical thought and evidence
  5. It must be scholarly

 

STORYTELLING

Storytelling describes the social and cultural activity of sharing stories, sometimes with improvisation to make people to understand the story

 

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HISTORY AND STORYTELLING
