CONTENT OF THE TOPIC

Helping the government to provide services

These are some of the ways we can help the government to provide services:

  1. Everyone should pay their taxes regularly.
  2. People should promptly pay bills and rates, e.g. water rate and electricity bills.
  3. When children attend government schools, their parents should pay any official development levies imposed on pupils.
  4. Those who undertake government contracts should be honest, and provide high quality service, and supply the right kind of materials which they have been contracted to supply.
  5. Communities should organize self help programmes, for example provision of boreholes, pipe borne water and community clinics.
  6. Non-governmental organizations can be set up to help the less privileged in society, in order to reduce the number of those who look up to government to care for them
