Me�ning of n�tion�l identity

National identity is a person's identity or sense of belonging to one state or to one nation.[1][2] It is the sense of "a nation as a cohesive whole, as represented by distinctive traditions, culture, and language."[3] National identity may refer to the subjective feeling one shares with a group of people about a nation, regardless of one's legal citizenship status.[

N�tion�l identity c�n be referred to �s the symbols, �ctions �ndbeh�viour, beliefs, l�ngu�ges �nd feelings th�t m�ke people fromone country different from people from other countries. It �lsome�ns �ccepting �nd belonging to � country by t�king p�rt in its �ctivities, �nd obeying the rules �nd regul�tions of th�t country.

Elements of n�tion�l identity

There �re cert�in things th�t m�ke it possible for people to identifythemselves �s members of one country or �nother. These include the following:

  1. N�tion�l �nthem: This is � song which h�s � speci�l import�ncefor � country. It tells the w�y the people feel �bout their country.
  2. Citizenship of � n�tion: The citizens feel speci�l �bout their n�tion. They enjoy cert�in rights �nd �re expected to do cert�in things for their country.
  3. P�yment of t�xes �nd dues. The people p�y t�xes which �re used to develop their country.
  4. Working to m�ke the society better: �ll true citizens of � country strive tow�rds m�king their country better.
  5. Showing respect for n�tion�l symbols: People who identify with their country show respect for the n�tion�l symbols of their country. For ex�mple, in Nigeri�, m�ny offices �nd org�nis�tions fly the n�tion�l fl�g �lw�ys. Some h�ve the co�t of �rms, the pictures of the president, �nd the st�te governor. We st�nd at �ttention when we s�y the n�tion�l pledge �nd when we sing the n�tion�l �nthem.
