CONTENT

Soil is the upper most layer of the earth crust on which plants grow. Soil consists of a solid matter of minerals and organic matter, as well as a pore space that holds gases and water. Soils consists of three-state system of solids, liquids, and gases.

Soil is alsothe mixture of organic matter, minerals, gases, liquids, and organisms that together support life.

Types of soil

There are basically three types of soil:

1. Loamy soil   2. Sandy soil

3. Clay soil

Importance of soil to plants

  1. Soil is the foundation of all life on earth without it, we couldn’t grow food we need to live.
  2. Soils protect plants from erosion and other destructive physical, biological and chemical activity.
  3. Soil provides minerals and other nutrients for plants growth.
  4. Soil stores water for plant use.
