PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to define energy.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
ACTIVITIES 1 – CARRYING THREE TO FOUR OBJECTS OF DIFFERENT SIZES – BUCKETS OF WATER
Note the bucket of water they are unable to carry.
ACTIVITIES 2 – MEANING OF ENERGY
Ask the pupils some questions,
- Why are you unable to carry this bucket of water? Expect response, we don’t have power. Tell the pupils, the power needed to carry this bucket of water is called energy.
- Touch light needs __________ to light up. Expected response – batteries. The batteries are called energy.
- Car needs __________ and __________ to work – engine and petroleum/fuel. The engine and petroleum/fuel are called energy.
- Television, radio, fridge, etc. need __________ to work – electricity. The electricity is called energy.
- To dry a fish, we need __________ – fire or sun. Fire and sun are called energy.
Teacher’s remark – We need energy to work. Touch light, cars, television, radio, generators, etc. need energy to work.
Now, ask them – what is energy? Let the pupils define energy and summarize as the ability to do work.
PRESENTATION
- To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
- To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
- Guides the pupils through different activities that lead to what energy is about.
- Pupil’s Activities – Listen, ask questions and define energy.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
