CONTENT : Sound patterns ‘oi’  and  ‘oy’ 

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;

  1. Recognize, read and spell the ‘oi’  and  ‘oy’ graphemes

ENTRY BEHAVIOR : Pupils can identify and recite all the letters of the alphabets and the vowels

SET INDUCTION : The teachers uses the ‘The sailor met upon the sea’ song to arouse the pupils

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES : Discussion, group activities, 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS : Objects with the ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ grapheme, chart showing objects with the ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ grapheme sound, white board, dry erase marker, clue cards

GUIDED PRACTICE

- Shows the pupils clue cards with the grapheme in front and a clue word at the back. Have them say the clue word then sound the grapheme it represents e.g joint(oi)

- Shows the children several images of words containing the grapheme ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ and asks them to pronounce it aloud

- Gives the pupils exercises on the ‘oi’ and ‘oy’ sound

 Choose the correct ‘oy’ word and then complete the sentence
