CONTENT : Writing Jolly phonics sounds qu, ou, oi, ue, er, ar 

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;

  1. Copy and trace jolly phonics sound qu, ou, oi, ue, er, ar both in the upper and lower case
  2. Write Jolly phonics sounds qu, ou, oi, ue, er, ar

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR : Pupils can identify all the Group 7 letter sounds

 

SET INDUCTION : The teachers uses the phonics songs of all the Group  7 letter sounds to arouse the interest of the pupils 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES : Singing, storytelling, playway, gestures/demonstration,gestures, explanation and repetition 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS : Flash cards, phonics sound chart, audiovisual clips of the phonics sound/song, pictures of objects with the Group 4 Phonics sounds, cardboards, crayons/coloured pencils, scissors, paper tape, trace patterns of qu-ar

PERIOD 1 AND 2: Copy, tracing and writing letter sounds qu-oi

The pupils listen

TRACING AND COPYING

The teacher draws letter sounds qu-oi using dotted lines on the board

She uses the arm tapping, air writing and table writing techniques to show how sounds qu-oi is traced and copied

qu- a combination of ‘q’ and ‘u’

ou – a combination of ‘o’ and ‘u’

oi- a combination of the ‘o’ and ‘i’ 

The pupils respond and participate

EVALUATION-WRITING

The pupils are made to trace and copy qu-oi both in capital and small case

CLASS WORK

The pupils are made to write qu-oi both in capital and small cases in their activity book

CONCLUSION

The teacher marks, commends and corrects the pupils where necessary
