SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
ENTRY BEHAVIOR : Pupils can identify all the Group 6 letter sounds
SET INDUCTION : The teachers uses the phonics songs of all the Group 7 letter sounds to arouse the interest of the pupils
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES : Singing, storytelling, playway, gestures/demonstration,gestures, explanation and repetition
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS : Flash cards, phonics sound chart, audiovisual clips of the phonics sound/song, pictures of objects with the Group 7 Phonics sounds, cardboards, crayons/coloured pencils, scissors, paper tape

PERIOD 1 AND 2: Identification of letter sounds qu-ar

1 | INTRODUCTION | The teacher introduces the topic as using sounds to say our letters. This is done using storyline qu-STORY The ducks are swimming IN the lake. The ducks make the sound “QU QU QU’. ACTION The children make their hands into a duck’s beak, opening and closing them saying, /qu,qu,qu/. ou-STORY Blessing is sewing a new dress. Suddenly the needle pricks her thumb. she cries and shouts “ou! ou!” ACTION The children pretend their finger is a needle and use it to prick their thumb, saying, /ou/! oi-STORY The sailor is on his big blue ship. when he see another ship coming too close he shouts “oi oi ship ahoy!” ACTION The children cup their hands around their mouth saying, /oi/! ship ahoy! ue-STORY Sharon is choosing some friends to play with her. She points to her friends saying, “i want to play with you! ue ue ue ue”! ACTION The children point to each other, saying, /ue, ue, ue/ er-STORY Benez loves making cakes. he goes to the shop and buys an electric cake mixer. it mixes so quickly, making the sound: “errrrrrrrrr”. ACTION The children roll their hands over each other like a mixer saying, /er-er-er-er/ ar-STORY Benjamin has pain in his throat. He goes to see the doctor. The doctor says, “open your mouth and say ar…..this will help me to see your throat better”. Benjamin opens his mouth and says “ar” ACTION The children open their mouths wide, /ar/ | The pupils listen |
2 | IDENTIFICATION | Using flashcards with the qu-ar written on it, the teacher makes the pupils to repeat it severally | The pupils participate |
