SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
ENTRY BEHAVIOR : Pupils can identify all the Group 5 letter sounds
SET INDUCTION : The teachers uses the phonics songs of all the Group 6 letter sounds to arouse the interest of the pupils
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES : Singing, storytelling, playway, gestures/demonstration,gestures, explanation and repetition
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS : Flash cards, phonics sound chart, audiovisual clips of the phonics sound/song, pictures of objects with the Group 6 Phonics sounds, cardboards, crayons/coloured pencils, scissors, paper tape

PERIOD 1 AND 2: Identification of letter sounds y-ch

1 | INTRODUCTION | The teacher introduces the topic as using sounds to say our letters. This is done using storyline y-STORY Yunus loves to eat yoghurt. His Auntie gives him some yoghurt. When Yunus eats yoghurt he makes the sound, ‘y y y y’ ACTION The children pretend to eat yoghurt from spoon, saying, /y, y, y, y/. x-STORY There was a boy called Jax who fell over and hurt his arm. He had to go to hospital where the doctor used an x-ray machine to see if his bones were broken. The x-ray machine made the sound ‘x x x x’ ACTION The children pretend to take an x-ray with an x-ray camera, saying, /x, x, x, x/. Ch-STORY Charlise is travelling to Maryland on the train. The train goes faster and faster and makes the sound ‘ch ch ch ch’ ACTION The children pretend to be steam trains, moving their arms like pistons, saying, /ch ch ch ch/ Sh-STORY Miss Kenny our English teacher entered the classroom while the students were making a lot of noise. “sh sh sh sh!” she says to them to keep them quiet so she can begin the day’s lesson. ACTION The children put their finger over their lips and make a continuous /shshshsh/ sound. Th(voiced) and Th(unvoiced) STORY th(voiced)- Pronounciation like “t” or “d” (as in then- “den”, think- “tink”) and th(unvoiced)- Pronounciation “f” or “v”(as in North-“Norf”, Breathe-“Breave”)
There were two clowns performing at a birthday party. one clown was a good clown and one was a bad clown. the good clown stuck his tongue out a little and said: “th”(voiced). the other clown stuck his tongue right out and went “th”(unvoiced). So all you could hear was “th th th th th th” ACTION The children pretend they are naughty clowns and stick out their tongues, a little way for /th/ and further for /thh/ | The pupils listen |
