SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
ENTRY BEHAVIOR : Pupils can identify all the Group 3 letter sounds
SET INDUCTION : The teachers uses the phonics songs of all the Group 4 letter sounds to arouse the interest of the pupils
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES : Singing, storytelling, playway, gestures/demonstration,gestures, explanation and repetition
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS : Flash cards, phonics sound chart, audiovisual clips of the phonics sound/song, pictures of objects with the Group 4 Phonics sounds, cardboards, crayons/coloured pencils, scissors, paper tape

PERIOD 1 AND 2: Identification of letter sounds ai-or

1 | INTRODUCTION | The teacher introduces the topic as using sounds to say our letters. This is done using storyline ai STORY Francis has ear pain. He goes to the doctor. The doctor speaks to Francis but Francis cannot hear. He cups his hand over his ear and says, “ai, ai, ai”. ACTION The children pretend not to hear well, cupping their hands over their ear, saying, /ai/! j STORY Do you know what Jelly is? It is a sweet that moves around like cold pap, making the /j, j, j/ sound. Children like to eat Jelly ACTION The children pretend to be the jelly and wobble, saying /j, j, j, j/ oa STORY The goat is running along and does not look where it is going. It runs into a tree and the tree falls down! Everybody says ‘oa oa oa’! look at that goat ACTION The children put their hand over their mouth, as if they are looking at the poor goat, saying, /oa/! ie STORY The sailor travels in a boat on the sea. When the sailor greets his friends he says ‘ie, ie’ ACTION The children pretend to be a sailor, saluting and saying, /ie, ie/! ee STORY The donkey is a very noisy animal. It always disturbs everyone making the sound ‘ee or, ee or’ ACTION The children pretend their hands are the donkey’s ears. Their hands point straight up for the /ee/ sound and point down for the /or/ sound or STORY The donkey is a very noisy animal.
