CONTENT : Sounding, identification and associating jolly phonics sounds c/k/ck, h, e, r, m, d with pictures and objects
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
ENTRY BEHAVIOR : Pupils can identify all Group 1 letter sounds
SET INDUCTION : The teachers uses the phonics songs of all the Group 2 letter sounds to arouse the interest of the pupils
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES : Singing, storytelling, playway, gestures/demonstration,gestures, explanation and repetition
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS : Flash cards, phonics sound chart, audiovisual clips of the phonics sound/song, pictures of objects with the Group 2 Phonics sounds, cardboards, crayons/coloured pencils, scissors, paper tape

PERIOD 1 AND 2: Identification of letter sounds c-d

1 | INTRODUCTION | The teacher introduces the topic as using sounds to say our letters. This is done using storyline c/k/ck-STORY Dennis loves playing castanets and dances as he plays. The castanet sounds ‘k k k k’. let’s dance ACTION The children click their fingers above their heads saying “ck, ck, ck” e-STORY Kelly loves fried eggs. His mother cracks eggs ‘e e e e’ and then fries it ACTION The children pretend to hold an egg in one hand and tap it against a pan saying “e, e, e”. then they use both hands to open the imaginary egg shell, and say “e” h-STORY Gregory hops and hops and when he is tired he breathes ‘h, h, h’ panting for breath ACTION The children pretend that they are panting and say “h, h, h, h” r-STORY Jenny’s puppy is very stubborn. He grabs Jenny’s rag with his teeth and rips it ‘rrrrrrr’ ACTION The children pretend to be a puppy holding the blanket, shaking their heads and making a continuous /rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr/ sound m-STORY George’s Mum prepared a very delicious meal. And after we ate the meal, we rubbed our tummies ‘mmmm’. ACTION The children rub their tummies as though eating their favourite foods, and make a continuous /mmmmmmm/ sound d-STORY Have you ever seen a marching band? They assemble at an open space with their very attractive attires. Carrying their drums on their hands or hanging them. Then their conductor makes a call out and each one hits their drum /ddddddddd/ ACTION The children pretend to hit a drum with their hands making the sound /dddddd/ as they hit the imaginary drum | The pupils listen |
