GENERAL RULES IN THE USES OF SEWING MACHINE

TOPIC: GENERAL RULES IN THE USES OF SEWING MACHINE

The following are the general rule or guideline in the use of sewing machine.

  1. Place the machine in good light.
  2. Use a good sewing machine posture.
  3. Fix the needle properly�
  4. Wind the bobbin into the bobbin cases.
  5. Thread the machine correctly.
  6. Before stitching be sure that the upper and lower thread are pulled to the back of the presser.
  7. Test the stitching on folded pieces of fabric to ensure tension.
  8. Place the fabric in the machine so that the bulk of the cloth us at the left hand side.
  9. Push both threads towards the back of the machine�
  10. Lower the needle into the position required.
  11. Lower the presser foot and begin to machine.
  12. Top turn a corner
  13. To stop and remove the work from machine .Place your right hand side on the balance wheel.
  14. Always study the instruction manuals (book) that come with the sewing machine.



COMMON CAUSES OF MACHINE FAULTS

The following are the common fault in sewing machine:

  1. Regulate tension: It occurs when one tension (Needle) is stronger than the other.

Correction: Check both tensions upper and under

  1. Skipped stitches: It is caused by a bent or blunt needle or improper set needle.

Correction

  1. Check and fix needle correctly.
  2. Change the needle to correct size.
  3. Thread the needle correctly.
  1. Puckers in fabric: This may be caused by improper setting of needle.

Correction

  1. Check both tensions.
  2. Check the presser foot if it is the correct one
  1. Breaking of machine needle: This may be caused by improper setting of needle.

Correction

  1. Remove the presser foot and re-fix correctly.
  2. Change the needle to the correct size.

  1. Constant breaking of thread: This may be caused by bobbin thread different from upper threads or use of poor quality thread.

Correction

  1. Check that the bobbin thread is placed correctly.
  2. Check if the bobbin thread has a knot.
  3. Make sure the thread is wound correctly

Practical operation of sewing machine by student: The teacher teaches the students how to operate sewing machine.
