WEEK SEVEN

TOPIC: FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT

Human rights are the entitlement of human beings that is; those things one is entitled to as a living being and as a member of a society. Right can also be called freedom and benefits that are guaranteed to people by law.

 

FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS OF EVERY NIGERIAN PERSON

1.Freedom to Life: Right to life without being hindered especially when an individual live in agreement with the law of society / nation

  1. Freedom of Religion and Worships: Rights to make a choose of religion and worship, in Nigeria we have the rights to belief and worship in any way we choose as long as the laws and rules of the society is not violated.
  2. Freedom of Expression or Speech: As human being, we have the rights to talk or air our views when need arises.
  3. Freedom of Movement: Ability to move from one place to another without being disturbed.
  4. Freedom to Personal Privacy: The rights to live as one wish.
  5. Freedom to Vote and be voted for.

THE RIGHTS OF A CHILD

1.THE RIGHT TO BELONG TO A FAMILY: to be a member of a family.

  1. THE RIGHT TO BE CARED AND CATERED FOR: A child has the right to receive physical, moral and spiritual care from the family and society.
  2. THE RIGHT TO BE PROTECTED: a child has the right to be protected especially when still very young.
  3. RIGHT TO LIVE: children have the right to live
  4. EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO A NAME:he/she must be given a name.
  5. Every child has the right to either formal / informal education from parents.
  6. Children have the right to enjoy all the rights regardless of race, education, sex, religious or political background.

HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION: This is when one’s right are disallowed or denied. This includes:

1.Kidnapping: This is a forceful way of taken / carrying people away from their beloved ones as well as denied the freedom of movement and speech.

  1. Detention: Some may be detained or even imprisoned for reasonably long period of time without being tried.
  2. Forced Marriage: When one is pushed to marry contrary to their wish; such people are denied the right to freedom of choice.
  3. One’s right can also be violated by inflicting undue punishment on them(students/children) especially between a senior and junior.
  4. Child Abuse: A child can be abused by physical attack, emotional depression or traditional harmful practices.
