TOPIC: CLASSIFICATION OF MEANS OF TRANSMITTING INFORMATION

Classifications of means of transmitting information are as follows:

  • Invention of the printer
  • Invention of� the radio�
  • Invention of the� television�
  • Invention of the telephone
  • Invention of computer
  • Invention of writing�
  • Invention of language�

  • Invention of printer: The invention of printer enabled the production of neater documents and the production of multiple copies of documents for wider distribution. Printer was invented by Johannes Gutenberg.
  • Invention of the radio: The invention radio sent signals through the air to facilitate the transmission of information to large audience at the same time. Radio was invented by Guglielmo Marconi in 1874-1937.
  • Invention of the television: Television was invented by Philo Taylor Farnsworth (1906-1971) .Television is an electronic system that receivers and through a transmitter audio and video signals over a distance.�
  • Invention of the telephone: Telephones are used for sending and receiving voice message and data signals over long distance. Telephone was invented by Alexander Graham bell in 1876.
  • Invention of computer: Computers could be used to store large amounts of information and this lead to a revolution of information storage and processing in many areas of human activities. The first digital computer was invented by Blaise Pascal in 1642. Modern computer was invented by Charles Babbage who is the father of the computer�
  • Invention of writing: Man began to record knowledge in form of codes and drawing on stone, clay tablet.
  • Invention of language: In every society, human have developed language as a means of sharing messages and allow people to express themselves and communicate clearly with each other.

Link between the computer and ICT

ICT refers to as a broad field that includes computers, telephone, cellular networks, satellite communication, broadcasting media and other forms of communication.�

There are relationships and links between the computer and ICT. Some of these relationships are:���

  1. Discoveries in IT and ICT were as a result of access to the computer.
  2. Computers and other ICT gadgets interconnected and function as one.
  3. People who understand the technology of computer are better users of ICT.
  4. The computers are programmable as ICT gadgets are programmable.
  5. Computers can perform the functions of other ICT gadgets.
