FOR WEEKS 6 & 7

God’s revelation of Himself

The Bible is the record of God’s revelation of Himself .This is the account of how He gradually made Himself known to the Israelite and the rest of the world through His actions in their live and their communities.

  1. God reveals Himself to Abraham: (Gen. 12:1-9, 17:1-12 and 22:1-19) .God first showed Himself to Abraham in Haran .God appeared to him and told him to leave his home and country to a strange place that He would show him .God promise to bless him .God said to Abraham that through him, all nations of the world would be blessed .Abraham obeyed God and left with his family to the land of Canaan..One occasion, God asked Abraham to go and land of Moriah and sacrifice his son Isaac and Abraham obey.

 

  1. God reveals Himself to Isaac and Jonah (Gen. 28: 10-17). God helped Isaac to get children and his wife, Rebecca gave birth to a set of twins, Easu and Jacob. God reveals Himself to Jacob at Bethel, and renewed the promise to give the land of Canaan to him and his descendant. They were invited by his son Joseph whom God has made the prime minister of Egypt .When Jacob reached Beersheba on the way to Egypt. God appeared to him and promised to be with him in Egypt.

 

  1. God reveals Himself to Moses :( Exodus 3:20) .When there was change in government in Egypt, theIsraelite were oppressed .God saw their suffering and revealed Himself to Moses in the ofMidian .God commanded Moses to go and free people from bondage in Egypt. He gave Ten Commandments to Moses which revealed to them through the kind of relationship. .He gave them water to drink in the desert .He brought them safely to Mount Sinai where He appeared to Moses and made a convent with the Israelite.

 

  1. God reveals Himself to Joshua: (Joshua 1) .After the death of Moses, God appeared to Joshua and promised to help him conquer the land of Canaan for the Israelites.God parted the Red Jordan for the Israelite and they cross on dry land.

 

  1. God reveals Himself to the Judges( Judges 1,4,5) .When Joshua died ,the Israelites became unfaithful to God by worshipping the gods of Canaan .God punished them by allowing their enemies to attack then .When the Israelitecomplained about their suffering .God came to their rescue .He appointed for then Judges who led them into battle to defeat their enemies.
  2. God reveals Himself to Samuel ( 1Samuel 9:15) .God appeared to Samuel and asked to anoint Saul as king for the Isrealite.When Saul disobeyed the commandments of God ,Samuel announced his rejection when God told him to do so.

 

  1. God reveals Himself to Prophets(2 Samuel 12) .David was a good king but when he did wrong, God appeared to the prophets Nathan and told him about the sin of David. When Solomon became King God revealed Himself to him at Gibeon and asked him to make a request .Solomon asked for wisdom and an understanding.

 

  1. God reveals Himself to Jesus Christ (John 1-4) .God revealed Himself fully through Christ by Jesus intimate relationship of love, kindness, mercy and forgiveness which he showed for everyone.

BIBE STRUCTURE

The Holy Bible contains sixty-six (66) books in the protestant version. The Bible has two main parts. They are 

  1.  The Old Testament contains of thrifty nine (39 )books
  2. The New testament contains  twenty-seven(27) books

THE OLD TESTAMENT BOOKS

The Old Testament book can be divided into three sections. These are: The law, the prophet and the Writing

The law: The law refers to the five book of Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus .Number and Deuteronomy. They are refers to as book of Moses because it was believed that Moses wrote all of them.

The prophets: The books of the prophets are: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggi,Zechariah and Malachi, Joshua, Judge, I&II, Samuel I&II and King I &II

The writing : The rest of the book in the Old Testament are called the writing .They are : Psalms,Proverbs,Job, Songs of Solomon, Ruth, and Lamentation ,Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel Ezra, Nehemiah  and I&11 Chronicles

THE NEW TESTAMENT

The New Testament contains twenty-seven books .The New Testament divided to four section: These includes.

The Gospel: The Gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John .The word gospel mean good news. 

The Acts of the Apostle: This is about the history of the earthly church .It showed how the apostles were able to continue with the work of Jesus Christ through the help of the Holy Spirit.

The Epistle or Letters: These were written by apostles especially Paul to the elders. These are: Roman, 1Corithians, 2Corithians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1Thessalonians, 2Thessalonians, 1Timothy, 2Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1Peter, 2Peter, 1Jonh, 2John, 3John and Jude.

Revelation: This is a book about prophecy.
