Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow;

ABDUL VISITS THE DOCTOR

The school had just resumed. Abdul was feeling some pain in the stomach. He told Ike his friend. Ike wanted to give him some tablets. Mrs Udoh, their class teacher, saw them and called them out. Abdul was shivering. He felt sick. The teacher took him to the school clinic where the doctor attended to him.

Mrs Udoh asked Ike, “How did you get the tablets?” “Our family doctor gave them to me when I had stomach ache”, Ike replied. Mrs Udoh told the whole class that “what Ike did was wrong.” “Do not give other people your own medicine,” she said. The children asked, “why ma?” Mrs Udoh said, “it is dangerous. If you are ill, tell me and I will take you to the school clinic. Your illness may be different from that of your friends. The doctor will give you the right medicine.” “We shall only take medicine that the doctor gives us,” the children promised.

MR ODEH’S BUSY DAY

Dinner time for Mr Odeh is 7 in the evening. At 9.50pm, he goes to bed after listening to the network news on the television.

 It was Akon’s day to wash the plates. She took out all the plates, cups, glasses and pots. While doing the washing-up, a fly came buzzing in her ear. As she tried to hit it with one hand, a plate in the other hand dropped and crashed. It broke into many pieces.

Mrs Bassey, Akon’s mother, came running out of the kitchen. She shouted at Akon, saying, “You bad girl, you have broken a plate again.”

Akon ran off so that her mother would not beat her. Akon tried to tell her that it was an accident but her mother wouldn’t listen. Mrs Bassey sent Akon to bed without supper.
